Actions & Events
After the initial frenzy I deliberately steared clear of covering the riots and demonstrations (everyone else took photos of them and their aftermath) and concentrated on the police and people. I did manage to get a few photos of events while taking other shots, though; some of them are shown here... (click on the images below for full-sized views)....
This sax player appeared at the head of one of Saturday's attempts to march along Telegraph then up Haste to the Park...
He (we) managed to get as far as Haste before the police stopped him. A few minutes later the crowd was dispersed with wooden bullets....
A wooden bullet. These are hollow light wooden cylinders fired from a large airgun. The police usually fire them at the ground a few yards in front of the protesters so that they splinter and ricochet onto the protesters' legs. They can sting like hell when they hit unclothed flesh, and cause nasty bruises and cuts when fired directly at people. Rubber bullets were also used -- these are much the same size, made of hollow-cored foam rubber.
The somewhat chaotic and very confused press conference held Sunday morning outside Cody's. This is where many of the people shots came from.
